    Bella Jane

So here is a photo of the reason why I don't get much time shoot anymore.

It's the first time I've shot C41 B&W film, so I'm looking for some more tips on how I can improve.

Other than her left foot being cut off, what else can I improve on?

    Cheers

Tighten up your depth of field, use a higher f stop, so that the whole baby is in focus. The right foot is blurred.

Hi danic, not looking too bad. The main thing I notice is the tonal range on this. Seems right down the middle. I'm guess you shot this on a beige or light tan couch? The baby is a little lost against it. Maybe try using some different backgrounds, like sitting the baby on a darker or colored blanket. In combination with that, use some different light filters, a light yellow or light green, to make the baby stand out a bit more. I wouldn't go with a heavy filter as I don't think a heavy contrast works well for these type of shots but, that comes down to preference. Just curious, which film are you using?

    Thanks the feedback guys

Axle, by higher F-stop, you mean something around f11 yeah?

Xia Ke, it was shot on a beige couch. I'm planning on using a darker background next time. I've learnt a lot about the background since I got the roll developed. Its Kodak BW400CN by the way. I'll see what I can find in the way of light filters. Sounds like an interesting idea to explore.

So getting back to the tonal range, what should I be aiming for? Something more contrast-ie? Feel free to edit as you wish to demonstrate as large words often confuse me :blush2:

Yeah, f/11 should provide you with a better DoF
