Aaron, I blame you for this!!!

Just borrowed this from a coworker tonight. I have a roll of Velvia loaded in it now, but plan on ordering some B&W films to play with. I guess I better get some chemistry and dig out my tank.

Re: Aaron, I blame you for this!!!

I have actually been wanting to get a TLR for a long time, just never did it. I have spoken to this guy several times about trying his out, but this week I finally got my hands on it. All of my other 120 film has been respooled onto 610 spools for my Kodak Vigilant, so now I have to get some more 120. I'm going to order some 35mm film as well, and bust out the AE-1. Since I have to send both my computer, and my DSLR in for repairs, I figure I better have something to play with while they are in the shop.

Re: Aaron, I blame you for this!!!

Glad to hear you are making the most of your downtime I LOVE TLR's now! I don't know what it is about them, I just have a blast with mine for some reason. The funniest thing is the looks from people. The old timers who know what it is give you the little nod of recognition, while younger people who have no idea what they are give you the look of total bewilderment. Cracks me up...LOL I hope you have a blast and end up adding one to your "stable". Looking forward to seeing some pics regardless though

Nice! I have always loved twin lens cameras. Although I am not so good at composing with the square format.

Look forward to seeing what you shoot with this. For some reason, I don't think color film should be allowed in these cameras :-P

I shot weddings with a TLR for about 10 years. The biggest challenge was always parallax. And sorry PJ but it was always color film in them.

Well, it didn't take me long to burn thru my first roll of film today. I'm going to order some B&W for it this weekend, and maybe some more color just for kicks.

Good question. Since it's slide film, I have to figure out where I want to get it developed. I might just take it to Walmart and have them send it to their lab. That would take about a week to get it back.

They wouldn't take it at all?

I called them a couple weeks ago to ask them if they develop medium format E-6 film. The first response I got was "what's medium format film?" And this was coming from a tech that works in the film lab. It wasn't encouraging. She said she would call the lab they send their film out to. If you don't use their 1 hour service, they send your film to a Fuji lab. I have had them develop 35mm E-6 before and it looked pretty good. She did eventually tell me that they can do it, so I may give it a shot. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

That would be awesome. Maybe I just got some idiot there when I checked as well. I only called though. Maybe I should stop in there and double check. If you find out they do it, please let me know.

I'll stop in tomorrow after work. Last time I talk to them, they quoted me a price of $3.88/roll, or something like that.

For $3.88 per roll?!?! I would double check on that. The cheapest I could find anywhere online was $6 and the only "local" (by that I mean 45min-1 hour drive) was $9.50

Yeah, I will double check tomorrow. If your looking for a good E-6 lab, check out Photo Craft Imaging. They do a great job, at reasonable prices. 120 film is $4.45/roll. This is where I send my stuff to when I have a bunch of film. With shipping, it's not worth sending a single roll.

Re: Aaron, I blame you for this!!!

Thanks for the link Michael Some damn good E-6 prices. If the C-41 prices were better I could justify doing it but, I just don't shoot enough color. Guess I'll just keep 'em piling up in the fridge until I get enough to make it worthwhile My local lab is only $5.00 for C-41 but, I don't really trust them after the last roll I dropped off

It's been a couple of years since I've used Photo Craft, but they did great professional quality work at a very fair price. Hopefully that hasn't changed. $3.88 sounds like a mistake - considering Walmart is getting a cut of that, the lab wouldn't be making enough.

I meant to stop by the local camera shop on Saturday to see what they had laying around for film developing supplies - didn't get there... And I blame Aaron for this too!

Re: Aaron, I blame you for this!!!

$3.88 does sound too good to be true so I called them back this morning. I spoke to the same woman I talked to a couple weeks ago. The response I got was "I don't know if they do that". Um, then why the hell did you tell me they did 2 weeks ago? :mad2: She is going to call the lab and then call me back.

So I called another Wal-mart and asked them. This one is a little farther away, but has had a photo lab for a few years now, so I figured they would have a better idea. Boy was I wrong. :mad2:

Once I explained to them the difference between C-41 and E-6 AND the difference between 35mm and 120, she finally said that she would call the lab and ask them, and that I should call her back in a few minutes. I can't wait to make that phone call.

So I have 2 seperate people calling their lab to find out. It will be interesting to see if they come back with the same answer.

I'm starting to think that I will be better off to just wait till I get some more, and send it to Photo Craft.
