    99 cents film

    Hi Folks.
I am a huge fan of the 99 cents only stores...While at the check out line, I noticed they had color film, 24 exp for .99 I was like, why not? Well, here are some of my images. These are over the course of a month or so. Shot with my Old K1OOO I got on e bay.....I do like the film grain very much and truly it is different than digital. In fact, OK, Don't excommunicate me but in many ways I feel it is better...I am definitely liking the look of film over digital for some things....Gosh, I don't know...I am so confused....EEEKKKK....LOL

    Re: 99 cents film

Cool stuff! I was eyeing some walgreens film the other day until I remembered the 50 or so rolls of other film I have in the fridge. I've been shooting mostly pro films for the last year or so, but I recently shot another roll of Superia X-tra 400 and was reminded of how good that film is.

Don't quote me on this, but I think I read somewhere that there are only 3 manufacturers of color negative film left. Obviously Kodak and Fuji, but there's apparently one in Italy that only makes generic films that are sold as store brands. The rest of the store brand films are made by Fuji and Kodak. Supposedly the Italian stuff is kinda grainy but has very vivid colors, but I can't remember which stores sell it. If it says "Made in Italy" on the package, that's it. I'd be curious to know if this .99 cent roll was made in Italy, because it certainly has vivid colors.

And as for the digital vs. film thing...well, I'll just say this...I have formed an opinion.

Sometimes grain is a good thing. It depends on what you are shooting and the mood you are trying to create.

I agree as I am learning this...
It does have a huge bearing on mood. But even more than that, film has a unique look all its own...It just looks more real to me.

Cool stuff. I like that first shot of the tracks.

I tried some cheapo film recently. I came accross a bunch of old Minolta SLR bodies, so I bought a 4 pack of 200 ISO Walgreens C-41 to test them with. I've just been getting prints made so far, but I am not impressed. Especially since I saw the Fuji stuff at a different store for the same price. I'm not even saving money! Oh well. It satisfied my curiosity.

Paul, I would have to agree. It's funny how we will spend all this money on gear and then buy some cheap film...I guess there is something in us that tells us we want a good deal on something even if at the end of the day we only save a few cents, which is the case with this cheap film.

I like that first shot as well, I also think the third shot is interesting. Film costs are all relative. I like to think of all film as equal in quality, it all depends on using it to create a good photograph.
