    Video Capture device for Mac

    Hi all.....

I have several VHS-C home movies that I wanted to put onto my computer so that I can arrange them to my liking and burn them to DVD.

I have seen Pinnacle Video capture for Mac, but it formats to Ipod and imports only to Ipod format (640x640). There are no controls to select anything else.

My question is: Do you know of anything else to get video to a Mac??

    Thanks....

    Phil

Re: Video Capture device for Mac

there are a couple of options some of canopus has a firewire card that also supports analogue in and output that works on a mac and they have the same device in an external box that plugs into firewire that works well with a mac and a pc. it is an ADVC110, I used to use the internal card version (can't remember the model name) but now use the ADVC110 as it has dip switches to change between digital and analogue inputs as well as Pal, NTSC, Secam as well as audio and synch modes. I also use it as a preview device as it has analogue out so you can preview what you are editing on a tv. my only gripe is that it tends to crash premier when premier is displaying tittles. I am sure there are other brands out there that do the same thing. I even recall ulead having a usb analogue capture device at one time, but i can't vouch for the quality.

    Crusty,

Thanks for the update. I will look into it as I STILL have not bought a device.

It has been a long time since I bought them, but they were about $400 australian from memory. Not cheap I know, but about the bottom of the price range for decent quality. The broadcast equivalents are stupidly expensive. Incidentally I think sony panasonic and JVC still make broadcast vcr's that have firewire ports but they will be even more expensive.
