New extreme video camera

Hi guys

I am an industrial design student currently designing a new video camera for sports, extreme sports and outdoor enthusaists. I want to develope a camera that can be used in all climatical conditions and enviroments and yet also be durable, light weight, etc. I would like to ask some questions for all video camera and sports enthuisaists and if you could answer to the best of your knowledge it would be much appreciated.

Questions

1) What current technologies would be benefitial in a video camera like this?

2) What functions on current video cameras are used and not used in sporting and outdoor conditions?

3) Is there anything that you feel could be incoorperated into a video camera to make it the best on the market?

Any information given in relation to the questions or the project would be most usefull

I'd like to see something with a good built in still camera, at least 5 megapixels, and allowing for full control over focus, ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, with settings on shutter speed up to at least 30 seconds.

A large sensor is also a must and HD would be nice.

i wrote a whole diatribe about what i would want but came up with the following thoughts:
most of what i want exists in other cameras albeit with housings. what i wan't may not be what the market wants. are you looking to build a pro camera or a consumer camera? if you are simply looking at robustness then i would be checking out the reviews sections to see what people have rated highly and why.
