They did say in the follow-up on web forums that the crushed blacks of the Canon were due to the out of the box setup, and with more knowledge of the settings they could make it look very much better.

I think that's pretty much the key point, they aren't looking at how it comes out of the camera. It's setup and lit professionally, and been through more post-processing than most people could afford.
