Canon's have always had nice microphones, i don't see why this one should be any different. their image quality is as good as any and often gives more vibrant colour reproductions than similar models. other than that is appears to have everything you want, i am not sure if canon are playing branding games with the "real widescreen" technology but it appear geniune and is probably an answer to the fact that australia is heading toward having hi definition television as a standard.
