    sunset lighting

I have a d70 and an sb800 flash, how can I adjust this flash to properly light subjects when my camera is shooting into the sun, their faces are always under exposed.

One thing you can try is putting the D70 into matrix metering mode, and put the flash into TTL-BL mode. You also probably will need to use some exposure compensation as well.

Use flash exposure comp (+). You want a shorter exposure but more flash power to light the people up.
