I have a Fuji S3 Pro and a Nikon D-100. If you set the S3 up correctly, use custom WB it will make the worlds best jpgs. All you will need to do is crop and print. I am truly amazed at home my work flow has been reduced. I only shoot RAW if I am rushed or I have doubts about the correctness of my exposure. On the down side and I think it's a major drawback. If you are in a fast action environment you will need to set the dynamic range on regular and probably shoot at 6 mp vs 12 mp. At that point I haul out the D-100 which is such a work horse.

Now having said all that I started out on the Nikon path with a F-100 and once you drop a bunch of change into good glass, changing to different manufacture's body is a major bummer. If I were starting out again from ground level I would go with the Canon's. Better technology, better performance for the price.
