    NIkon vs Cannon

Hello, I am new to DSLR world but I want to get into photography. I have been looking into Nikon D90 and Cannon t2i. Although I am leaning towards Nikon, I just wanted opinions of people who have used either and if I would be making a good choice.
    Thanks!
    Niki

    Re: NIkon vs Cannon

The first SLR camera I was given was a Nikon FM2 with some Nikon lens, I have always been happy with Nikon, so I see no reason to change, I have met many other Nikon owners and many started off with other makes like Canon, Pentax etc, but ended up buying Nikons, I am yet to meet any ex Nikon owners.

    Re: NIkon vs Cannon

When I was looking to get into DSLR's I compared Nikons to Canons and Sony's, I found that they all get great reviews and are dearly loved by their owners. There is pretty much a doppleganger for any model offered by any of these brands so I would say just decide what your price range is, then go to a camera shop and hold all the models you are considering in your hands and decide what feels most natural to you. That's how I wound up with my 40D, I really liked the weight, it fit in my hands comfortably and it had all the features I was looking for.

So yes some novice advice, most of the folks here can give you a much more expert opinion, but from a newcomers standpoint, thats how I made my decision.

    PS:

Just know that one of the possible side effects of owning a Nikon is that you may suddenly be filled with some weird inferiority complex that will compel you to spam the internet with negative comments about Canon's even though they are both awesome camera companies and there is plenty of room for both to exist.

I'm very confident that if you go Nikon or Canon, you'll be really happy with your photographs.

I've used both systems extensively and I'm prefectly happy to use either. Both companies make great cameras and great lenses and neither system is going to get in your way or make you a better photographer. If you're inclined to buy Nikon, then Nikon is probably a good idea so that you don't have any buyer's remorse. Like I said, neither camera system is going to produce bad results so going with your heart is a fine way to buy

    Re: NIkon vs Cannon

Back when I got into SLR photography (1985), Nikon ruled the SLR film world . . . and this upstart "Canon" company was coming on strong by focusing on those "newfangled" developments like auto focus . . . and auto everything stuff. Additionally, they came out with lots of fine "glass" that would rival Nikon in quality and selection. At the time, more pros used their various Nikon camera vs. Canon, though things were changing fast.

Things seemed to change in the early digital camera age. Nikon held back in developing the digital technology and Canon thus roared ahead in this new field. When Nikon realized digital was here to stay they really turned it on to play catchup . . . but Canon stayed quite ahead for a time.

Today, its a tossup, IMHO, and I believe you'll be happy for years with either brand as digital imaging moves forward.

I chose Canon . . .based a lot on what my friends transitioned to well before I did. One is a full-time professional photographer who was always a Nikon man for many years. He transitioned to Canon and has never looked back

HOWEVER . . . talk to 500 more people and you'll have lots of strong opinions on both sides of this question! You can't go wrong with either.

Although I use Nikon SLRs, I have never found Nikon make so far a compact camera that matches my two Canon compacts, Canon G9 & Canon S95

    *yawn*

People need to give the brand wars a rest.

The fact that THIS is the most typical consumer level question is pretty pathetic. I think of all the useful questions that one COULD ask, and it seems the anti-climatic "which ones better Nikon or Canon" question remains ever pervasive.

Here is what you should do: Get a Sony, Pentax, Olympus or Leica. Do that just to SPITE all the goofs who will continually ask the lame question - "what should I get, canon or nikon". Be the exception to that groupthink mentality.
