    Re: Nikon D50 lenses

It all depends on the kits.

Some retailers try and give you Quantaray or Sigma lenses. These are not official nikon kits.

The Nikon 18-55mm DX and 55-200mm DX are not bad lenses, but not great. For a better lens, try the Nikon 18-70mm DX and either the 55-200mm or a sigma or Nikon 70-300mm.

I don't know how much you are looking to spend though.

The d50 is a great camera. You'll enjoy it i'm sure.

You won't find a legitemate D50 online for less than about $500. the best I saw was when it was heavily discounted a few months ago for $485 at the reputable dealers. Now its back up to about $549 but out of stock most places.

B&H has the D50 with 1GB Lexar high speed SD card for $582.95

Then i'd pick up a Nikon 18-70mm DX and another lens like the 70-300mm or 55-200mm. You'd come out around a grand.

Remember a DSLR is useless without a lens

    Re: Nikon D50 lenses

I recently got a D70s with the 18-70 lens, and I am impressed with this lens. I haven't used the 18-55.

Something to keep in mind though...when you buy an official Nikon kit, there is a discount that you won't get buying the pieces seperately. I don't think Nikon offers a kit for the D50 with the 18-70. So, if you decide this is the lens you want, you should look at the D70s. You can easily find a D70s kit w/18-70 for $950...maybe cheaper. That's pretty close to what a D50 + 18-70 lens will cost w/o a kit discount.

Also, I recommend searching through the Dealer Feedback forum on this site, before ordering from some place with a really low price. Beware of bogus deals.

    Good luck!

looking at all the kits http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation seems to be the best one with the 2 lenes, 18-55 and the 55-200, for around 750

    Re: Nikon D50 lenses

that's a good kit- you'll just need a memory card. However I personally prefer the 18-70mm DX to the 18-55 in terms of build quality (the 18-55 has AF-S but a slower rod-type that does not allow for full time manual focus override), optical quality, lens speed (the 18-70mm is f/3.5-4.5, while the 18-55 is f/3.5-5.6), and usability (18-70 has a bigger and better placed focus ring)

The focus ring is one of my favorite things about the 18-70. You can make manual focus adjustments without switching off your Autofocus. Very handy.

I tend to be a believer in getting the two cheap lenses that cover 18-200mm or 18-300mm first. Later, you'll add the cheap (but great) 50mm f/1.8 and start adding better lenses as you get into photography (if you do.)

    Re: Nikon D50 lenses

I would not recommend the 28-80 due to the focal length range . the 18-55 is more useful on digital in the opinions of almost everyone (it is basically a 28-80 film equivalent) and is more recent, with ED and AF-S technology.
