Need help with New Lens..

Hey everyone! My husband bought me a Phoenix 500mm f 8 telephoto lens for x-mas. I use a NikonD50 Digital SLR. I cant figure out for the life of me how to change the settings on my camera so the photos dont come out completely black.

Well f/8 at 500mm doesn't let a lot of light in. Crank your ISO up (~1600), and start using it in extremely bright environments. You'll also have to shoot for a pretty fast shutter speed, 1/250 at the slowest.

Anbesol; It also looks like it may be manual aperture, judging by the control ring.
Apart from opening up to f/8, how do you deal with non-electronic lenses?

I see it comes with a t-mount to let it be mounted to the Nikon so I'm guessing also that all the adjustments for aperture have to be done manually. Does it meter at all?

It definitely won't meter at all on a D50. Metering manual lenses on digital Nikons needs a D200 or above.
