Flash Sync Speed for Nikon D70 Vs. Canon 300d

I get confused when they start talking avout Flash sync speed as a differance between the two cameras. Can some one explain what they mean.

Also....when you get a External Flash for the Nikon D70, some come with TTL metering. What is TTL Metering!

I think I might have mispoke. The external flash technology is TTL metering , or Ittl Metering.....anywyas if some one could explai!

Flash sync speed is the fastest speed the flash will sync at. 1/200 for the rebel, 1/500 for teh D70.

TTL stand for through the lens, it is what all flash systems use for metering.

Its advantage is that it lets you sync at faster shutter speeds. This has many applications, for example using a fast shutter speed with a large aperture outside to still be able to use fill-flash, or underexposing ambient light while using flash to illuminate your subject. It is a nice feature, but not one that would make or break a camera purchase. Lenses and the overall system are much more important.

have you ever tried to use flash and only be able to sync at f11 WHEN YOU WANT F5.6 flash may not be AS important as the system or LENS used, but the flash sync is VERY important to ME ;)

the reason I bought a USED 1D over a NEW 10D was...... FLASH SYNC (and FPS)

now I want a 10D TOO ;)

Yes, it's very important to YOU, but you have a very specific set of needs, and therefore have to have gear that matches those needs.

No oeffense to the original poster, but if one needs tohave the meaning os sync speed explained to them, then it is definitely not something worrying about FOR THEM when making a choice.

flash sync is up to 1/500 on d70.this means you have that much more control of your dof.the canon syncs at a lower speed,1/125 or 1/250 max.this means alot to some people,and not didly to others.i like to blur my background alot of the time,and these couple f stops make a differance.if you pop up a internal flash on camera,the camera jumps to sync speed.it will flash at all speeds,but optimum lighting happens at x speed.i like to set it on shutter priority,at 125,and let camera pick aperature if at differant focal lengths.
