    Entry level dslr vs mirrorless

...I have a budget of $500.00...I'm torn between the Nikon d3100 or the sony a3000. I'm looking for something that works well for indoor photography(family pictures) and is durable. Any input on these two cameras.

This link sums your question pretty well up.

Nikon D3100 vs Sony A3000 - Our Analysis

Most Nikon lenses have VR, image stabilization, so that's a wash. Nikon has greater lens selection and resale value.
Can't really go wrong with either one. Personally I'd pick the Nikon.

....volks....when you say, image stabilization and VR, is "a wash"...do you mean that the Sony a3000 doesn't have these features??? Thx for your input in advance.

Sony has it in the camera body, and Nikon has it in the lenses, designated by the letters VR on the lenses. So regardless which way you go you will have image stabilization, hence a wash. Hope that clears it up.

You are welcome. I should clarify that not all Nikon lenses have VR. All kit lenses do, however prime lenses such as 30mm, 50mm and super wide angle lenses do not.
Good luck with your decision, I,m certain you'll be happy with either one.
