    D70 Focus questions

#1 I just bought the D70 and can't seem to set it to where the 5 focus circles can be highlighted when using the thumb control as on my N80. It lights up where it focuses, but I don't have the control. What do I need to do?

#2 Is there a way to save (on the camera) a zoomed image? When reviewing you can zoom in to a particular part of the image - but is there a way to keep that image? Or does that have to be done with the software?

    Thanks in advance!

Did you check the switch below the thumb pad and make sure it is not set to "L", as this locks the thumb control to off in shooting mode, according to Phil Askey's review of this camera on dpreview.com. Just a thought-I'm not actually familiar with this camera, but I've checked the review on it since I have been tempted to try Nikon. Hope that helps you.

Try activating the focus then changing

I just tried the focussing on mine (I also have an F80 and a F75).

    1. The focus selection pad deactivates itself after a few seconds of inactivity. If you touch the shutter release button to activate the autofocus then the slection pad comes to life again and you can change the focus zone

    2. The camera has 3 autofocus modes selectable from the LCD Menu (press the Menubutton then select CSM Menu). The third option (on my French model) is the focus mode. If you're on the "C - Closest subject" mode (that was introduced with the F75) then the camera will light up the sensor its using but you can't change it. Set the mode to "S - Selective" and it should react as in point 1.

Thanks Charles - that was it - I hadn't found that part of the menu before either!

    Hi,
I think you just need to press left or right on the flat button or up or down. At one point it becomes all of them at once. It'll show you each time which location will be in focus with the red light. No you can't keep the zoomed image. That's just for viewing as you're photographing. Any enlargements are done with software, once you're finished with the photgraphic part.
