D70 Problems

Bought a D70 from a legitimate retailer in SIngapore and it had a faulty multifunction switch. Exchanged it for another one, and this one had a problem with the horizon, pictures sloped once taken. Seemed as if CCD was mounted crookedly. Lots of bad luck here. Has anyone had a similar problem? I also discovered that there is no such thing as an international warranty for Nikon and that all Nikon warranties for digital equipment only relate to the country in which they were bought.

Be grateful for any suggestions.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences. I don't have any specific experience to relate. However, some of the folks at Nikonians.org may be able to offer some advice. There's a D70 user group over there.

I THINK I WOULD BE ON THE PHONE WITH NIKON OR THE NIKON REP FROM THAT STORE,AND TRY TO GET A CAMERA SHIPPED OUT TO ME FROM NIKON,IVE HAD MINE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AND NO TROUBLES YET.I THINK THEY ARE MAKING SO MANY OF THESE CAMERAS,THAT THE QUALITY CONTROL MIGHT NEED TO BE TIGHTENED UP A LITTLE BIT.I KNOW THEY WERE NOT EXPECTING TO SELL HALF AS MANY d70 THAT THEY HAVE,AND STILL SEVERAL DEALERS ARE WAITING ON BACKORDERS.GOOD LUCK,KEEP US POSTED ,ITS A NICE CAMERA ,WHEN IT WORKS.

I've posted about Digital Cameras and lack of warranty except in the country they are supplied in. E.G. Australia only warrant cameras purchased here in Australia. Given the fact that we are a fairly Global society these days, these warranty restrictions really do suck, but they are in place to try and stabalise the industry as such, remember we don't have the population base in Australia that the USA and other countries have therefore if we don't support our industries here in Australia then we will just become an import society (not that we aren't that already).

I don't agree with the lack on International Warranty on Digital Cameras and would suggest maybe contact Department of Consumer Affairs and discussing it with them. There might be some avenues that you can access with them.
