    3D sharpening

Here is a very interesting article on sharpening:

We will have some PS plugin soon that explores these findings.

PS: Just in case you are confused that I will quite often point ot my site, here is why. My site has about 3 million visitors per year. Our focus is mainly on:

    - Digital Workflow
    - Digital SLRs
    - Runnerup Digicams
    - Wide format printing

That means many of your questions have been answered at my site.

We also sell e-books about the digital workflow (covering the experience from working for 4 years with raw files):

    Smile Thanks, Uwe

Uwe writes a lot of digital workflow material that would just be too hard to copy over to this site. He's graciously agreed to host this new Digital SLR Forum. Seeing as his expertise is digital workflow, and he's used pretty much every digital SLR, this forum is going to be a great new resource for PhotographyREVIEW.com and PCPhotoREVIEW.com. And if you do want more detail, he'll provide links to in-depth articles on his Web site, www.digitaloutback.com. You can also buy his PDF workflow books if you want the whole enchilada.

Thanks, Uwe. Glad to have you on board!

    Hi Uwe,

Interesting, but there are some questions and concerns I have. The first is I tend to notice images that are overhshapened have this effect but it doesn't translate well to print. Right now I'm using focalblade and have been fairly happy. My prints come out with a different, and better, IMO, effect than with PS USM. It just looks more "realistic" (for what that's worth); not falsely sharp, or too soft. (sharpening is probably the biggest problem I notice on people's prints).

I ask because my chromes always looked 3d, so there's always a slight let down when printinig. Digital images on the monitor also have a similar backlit effect to some degree too. I also notice a lot of "effects" that are produced on the screen just don't have that pizzazz when printed.

I'm old fashioned and I value the final prints the highest.

    Mike

Me too. You can also judge it yourself. Use a trial version.
