You're looking in the Nikon Lineup at either the D80,D200,D300,D3,D2x or in the canon lineup at the EOS 40D,5D,1DMKIII,1DSMKII, in the pentax lineup at the K20D, or in the olympus lineup at the E-3. None of these are basic cameras, but provide images with sufficient resolution and image quality to be acceptable by most publications (except nat geo which I still believe prefers film). Remember though, it's the final image, not the camera that counts. If you have way too much money and shooting models then get a hasselblad and you're done; for still landscape shots just get a scanning back and you're set too.
