waterproof: Fujifilm Z90 vs Olympus Tough 6020

I'm getting a camera as an casual use alternative to my big bulky DSLR. I'm particularly interested in a waterproof and shock proof features for camping and my 5 year old boy. The Sony TX10 would be the ideal option, but the Fuji Z90 and Olympus tough 6020 are less than half the cost, and pretty dang sweet as well. So, I'm particularly interested in finding out how they directly compare as far as ruggedness/durability, and image quality, can't find anything on the net hat puts these two througho the same benchmarks.

    Thanks

*edit - or if you know of another better option underor close to $200, like the Fiji xp20? let me know

I just found out the z90 isn't waterproof. DOY. Snapsort put it in the "waterproof" category... So, I guess it would then be the XP20, vs the olympus tough 6020.

I've eliminated the tough 6020, just poor image quality. The XP20 is much better and cheaper.

I'm trying to talk myself into getting Sony's TX10, but at $120 more its a hard sell for me..

I'll probably just end up doing the XP20. Anybody have experience with TX10 or XP20?

Thanks for chiming in Skiahh and pointing out that thread. I haven't heard a positive thing about the Olympus tough image quality yet! Its such a shame, those Olympus cameras have everything going for them, except image quality. That is a pretty large, and unfortunate exception .

I think I'm going to go with the Sony TX5 or TX10, as the relative durability of the difference between the Panasonic and the Sony is a lesser priority than image quality for my use.

The Exmor sensor on the Sony's really produces outstanding image quality for a point and shoot. The Fuji is a pretty cool camera, but for only $50 more I could get the TX5, with much better image quality and controls.

The lack of manual controls is a bit disheartening (in EVERY tough camera), but I was glad to discover that the Sony at least offers all 3 fundamental metering modes (spot, center weighted, evaluative), which should in and of itself offer some greater manual controls, (assuming theres an AEL toggle, which I will be finding out shortly). Neither the Fuji nor the Panasonic include this meter adjustment control.
