Okay, bit of a story to segway in here...
In April my mom and I went to Starved Rock State Park. She had a brand new Lumix TZ5 that she got at circuit city during the liquidation sales. I was using my DRebel (which I was in the process of selling to her but my new XSi got stolen just before our trip). We were on a trail through a canyon with a meandering creek that kept crossing the trail, and trying to cross on little wood jams of branches since we're wusses about getting our feet wet.
My ma started to freak out she was going to fall and end up getting the camera wet, so in the middle of the creek insisted that I take her camera (I tried to talk her out of it, since the friggin creek was 6" deep and if she lost her balance she could just put a foot down in the water, but she was definately not thinking all too clearly about the whole situation). So finally I go out to try and get her Lumix, and she let go just before I got a good grip and it went plunging into about 6-8 inches of water (while ON).
So, we thought it was toast. Then I happened to mention it to the girl at the gift shop later, and she told me she once saved a cell phone by burying it in a sealed container of rice. Amazingly the camera (which had been totally saturated with water and even had water in the lens) was resurrected after a week of being in the rice. It works perfectly. Much to all of our awe.
Anyway, are there any good, lightweight waterproof cases for this kind of camera? She was really worried with it just dangling on her wrist and if we go hiking again it would be nice if she could just tuck it in a case where she wouldn't need to worry about something happening if she fell into a shallow creek.
Any suggestions?
