You won't have any trouble finding a tripod for that price. The main thing to look for in a tripod is stability and ease-of-use. I poor tripod might be wobbly when it's set up or hard to open and close. The tripod head is also important. There are different kinds and people have different preferences. Ballheads are the easiest to use but they usually cost more. The pan/tilt head is most common on inexpensive tripods. The truth is, tripods are pretty simple. If you pay more, you do get more. But just having one if more important than having the best one. I recommend taking your camera to a camera shop and just trying them out. You will get a feel for them very quickly and making a decision shouldn't be very complicated.

    Re: tripod for compact cameras

I was once wondering myself regarding how to buy a tripod. If there were such a thing as a perfect tripod, it would be lightweight, rigid, strong, conveniently portable, easy to set up, inexpensive and tall enough for comfortable viewing. Like everything else, some compromises have to be made in these areas, but there are some general features to look for in a tripod and some specific ones that make good platforms for visual observation.

I think you can start with Sunpak Compact Camera Tripod and OSN 250 Compact Tripod.
