    Question Transfering when on holidays

    Hello,

I'm new in the world of digital photography and I have one question, I hope you can help me.

Let's say my memory card is full and I can't afford to buy a new one at that precise moment and place.

What can I do to empty my memory card soon to carry on taking more pictures?

Is there any device that I can simply plug into my digital camera to transfer all the pictures inside? This way I would empty my memory card in a moment and I'd be able to carry on taking more photos.

I don't know if I'm asking too much because I don't know anything about this digital world, but if something similar to what I've suggested exists, please let me know because I need to buy it.

How can a pen drive help me when I'm away from home on holidays, taking lots of pictures? My Sony digital camera comes with a USB cable and when I need to see or save my pictures, I just plug this cable to the camera and PC.

I'm thinking, can I plug this USB cable to the pen drive and camera (instead of the PC and camera) when my memory card is full to transfer all my pictures to the pen drive? If this is not possible, maybe because the pen drive has no USB port for the USB cable to be plugged, how can I use it then? Going to an internet-cafe, plugging the camera to a PC with the USB cable that I have and once all the pictures are inside the PC, plug the pen drive and transfer the pictures to the pen drive???????? It's a bit too complicated because maybe there is no internet cafe around when you need it.

I hope there is another way. I hope you can help me out.

    Thank you very much.

Your pen drive won't really be of any use to you in this case...But there are a couple of options.

The first option is to take your memory card to some place that develops digital photos, and maybe they can burn the pics onto a CD, but this option is probably not going to be feasible in a lot of places.

The second option is to get a portable hard drive and/or cd burner that can write directly from your memory card. These can be somewhat spendy, but probably worth it. Check out CNET's reviews of a bunch of them here...This is probably the best option.

The third option is just to buy more memory than you think you'll need for your trip...

I don't know how to put this, but...I'm kind of a big deal...People know me.

Buy an image Tank with a 30G drive in it and you will be laughing. I have one and it is quite easy to use and transfers reasonably quickly over to the drive. I use it to transfer off of my 1 G card and have 256 meg card that I use while the files are transfering over in the mean time. I would be a good idea to have two cards with you minimum anyway, so if something goes arye with one you have a backup as well.
