    Sigma Buys Foveon

    Sigma just announced that they are buying Foveon, the company that makes the X3 sensor used in their digital cameras.

    I don't know if this is good or bad. I think the Foveon chip has some real potential, I would like to see the technology developed more. I wonder if this technology can be used to produce 3 bayer type sensors stacked each recording a different EV that can produce an in camera HD image.

    I like the images from the Foveon chip. I think the limitations so far are with the Sigma cameras, not the sensors.

    Your idea is interesting. I have no idea if it's feasible or not. But it's definitely interesting.

    I agree. In my early digital days, I thought hard and long about a Sigma body, because of the Foveon chip. In the end I just couldn't see limiting myself to Sigma lenses. I ended up Canon because that's what I was already shooting.
