should i sell my d40x to buy a leica d-lux? advice please!

ok, so i have a nikon d40x and was considering selling this on in order to purchase a compact leica, possibly d-lux 4. image quality is important to me but i do not necessarily require proffesional standards. also i want to opportunity to be creative but i mostly use the camera for documentation purposes or reportage so should i go for the leica?

any help or advice would be much appreciated. thank you

That's a tough one. I haven't had a chance to use the new Leica yet. But I would be really surprised if it can come close to your Nikon with image quality, auto focus, or speed.

yeh. the nikon's been a good camera. think i might just be getting seduced by the leica. and i'd effectively be paying to downgrade i suppose.

i'll wait and see if anyone else has anything to advise..

Don't get me wrong, I think the D-Lux 4 / LX3 looks like a great camera. But it's not going to deliver the goods like the Nikon will. If you want something easier to carry, maybe take a look at one of the Panasonic pocket cameras. There is something to be said for a camera you can always have with you. But you have to be perpared to accept some compromises. There are always compromises
