    SDHC cards advantages??

    Hi,

I'm gonna get an ixus 860 and im looking at the SDHC memory cards like this (this one is class 2)..

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Memory-Maste...281802&sr=1-10

The question i have is, I already have a sandisk Extreme III SD card which has a minimum read/write of 20MB/sec. These newer SDHC cards have 3 different classes of minimum speeds (up to 6mb min for class 6) but they are all well below 20mb of the Extreme III. What is the advantage of them then???

btw if u have any newer recommendations instead of the 860 IS let me know (must be around the same price range though, the 860 IS is £200 which would be the max and image quality is the most important aspect). Im pretty much going with the 860 though

    Re: SDHC cards advantages??

The Canon IXUS 860 is called the PowerShot SD870 IS in the US. Here's a link to the review page: http://www.photographyreview.com/cat...6_6446crx.aspx

I have the PowerShot SD950 IS / IXUS 960 IS. It has a 12-megapixel sensor and the image quality is as good as the 8-megapixel sensor. however, it doesn't have the wide lens that the 870 IS / IXUS 860 has. If you want that wide lens in a Canon camera, you only have the one choice.

As for the memory card, I don't know if the speed actually makes any difference. I haven't had the opportunity to really compare different card speeds in compact cameras. I have a fast SDHC 4GB card in my camera and I wouldn't say the camera's performance is especially fast. That being the case, I'd go cheap over supposed high-performance. It used to be that compact cameras couldn't benefit from faster cards. I've heard conflicting reports over the past couple of years. But like I said, I can't speak from experience. So I'd just go for less expensive. Are you looking at SDHC for video? Because I'd probably just buy a 2GB standard SD card. Unless you're shooting a ton of video, I think a high-capacity SDHC card is total overkill for an 8-megapixel compact camera.

Cheap is good! And PNY is a fine memory company, as far as I know. I haven't used their memory. But their not some fly-by-night no-name maker. So I would buy it. For that price I don't think you can lose.
