    Samsung GX10 Issues?

    Hi,

New to the site...have owned the camera for a few months, like it but think I may have outgrown it already.

I had to return the camera after two weeks due to the auto focus jamming, seemed to be a firmware issue which was resolved. However, I was out all day yesterday at Duxford airshow and collected about 700 shots only to find that more than half seem to be corrupted! The camera has a 2G card so there was plenty of room for more - just don't understand why the problem occurred?

I remember taking shots and not being able to review the images, the LCD screen was telling me it couldn't recognize the images even though it took them. After downloading them I can see the first 250 but after that the images show as jpeg files but just wont open. I've tried opening them in many programs but with no luck - really frustrating after a good days shooting.

Can anyone tell me if this has happened before? I'm at the point where I may just get rid of the thing and buy a more trusted brand...which is a shame as it is a good camera despite Samsung's lagging customer support!

    Thanks

    nik

Sorry to hear about the problems. What brand of memory card were you using? Have you ever formatted the card in the camera?

    Re: Samsung GX10 Issues?

    Hi John,

Using a Sandisk Ultra 2 SD, don't know if it is the card...but having done a few tests it could well be, don't have another card to test though.

The camera is heading back to samsung again so will wait to hear there view?

Still have hopes for the camera, I like it, although would like something a little faster when it comes to taking aviation shots, I guess it's buying into a system, still Pentax is a solid brand and plenty of lenses. However I used to have a Nikon F100 which I do miss, so I am tempted by the new D300...the price however makes me think twice

    Cheers

    Anti-Shake

I hope it gets fixed. The SanDisk card should work fine. Although someone has to get a bad one every once in a while. They can't all work perfectly. It's too bad you don't have another card available. The first thing I'd try to do would be use another card. I'd also try formatting the card you have now in the camera. I always do that before I use a new card. And then I format my cards every time I download the images to the computer.

Although the D300 looks great, I would encourage you to stick with the Samsung. I don't know that there's any really compelling reason for you to switch back to Nikon. And the Anti-Shake system built into your Samsung is a very good reason to get it fixed and keep using it - especially if you're doing lots of telephoto action photography. With the Nikon you'll have to buy a telephoto VR lens to get the same kind of performance you'll get from every lens when you're using the Samsung. And Anti-Shake definitely means more usable photos.

Please keep us posted about your camera. I'd like to know more about Samsung's service. And post a review for your camera after you get through all this. I don't think we have any Samsung GX 10 reviews yet.
