Question Replace lens or get new camera?

Hi everyone. I have been using my Fuji Finepix S602 for the past year or so and have been fairly pleased with it. Unfortunately, on a recent trip my lens got totally scratched.

    I have a few questions:

    (1) Does anyone know where (preferably online) I can purchase a replacement lens for this camera?

    (2) In terms of cost, would it be wiser for me to fix the camera or to purchase a new (better) one?

    (3) Any suggestions? I'd like something that can handle a little bit of shaking better (i get a lot of blurry photos because i have a pulse) in the $500-$1000 range.

    Thanks!

    Well, let's see:

    (1) The one online dealer I'd recommend is B&H. http://www.bhphotovideo.com They supply pros and serious amateurs the world over, and carry practically everything.

    (2) That depends on the cost of repairs vs. what that money will get you in a new camera. Only you can make that choice.

    (3) Minolta is leading the technology now in Anti-Shake. Some models which have it include the new Z-3 ($549), and the A-1 and A-2 (both under $1,000).

For probably just over $1,000 - though no one knows for sure yet - Minolta is introducing a new Digital SLR at the Photokina show, coming up in about a month. It is based, very faithfully, on the popular Maxxum 7 film camera. It will feature built-in Anti-Shake, which will be effective with all lenses used - and will accept all of the current Maxxum lenses, along with at least two new ones slated to be introduced with the camera. Might as well consider going all the way, since your budget comes so close to doing so.

Whatever you get - DO get a suitable Skylight or UV filter to go on the next lens, and keep it on there, for protection. An almost universal recommendation, which has saved many a lens from 'the scratch of death'. Filters are a LOT cheaper to replace than lens elements.
