Question Problems downloading from SD Card

Hello everybod, I am a new member using this site for the first time. :blush2: I recently took a prolonged break in SE Asia taking well over a 1000 photos with my Pentax K-m which I have had for 9 months. Would have taken more but a 4GB SD card became corrupted and is now u/s.
The reason for this post is to ask if anyone can help with downloading about 100 photos on that card, taken on the Mekong Delta, which when loaded onto my computer appear as thumbnails in ACDSee but will not download onto my computer for storage editing etc. It seems that they are there and I would dearly like to download them into a folder but can't find how to do so.
    Hope someone can help!!

Sorry about your corrupted card. Most of the time the photos are recoverable if you use image recovery software. Both Lexar and SanDisk sell thhat software and include it with their pro memory cards.

Are you trying to download the remaining photos straight from the camera or with a card reader?

I've got three different software packages, and two card readers, between them I may be able to get photos off the card.

    Thanks for response?
From my camera using the USB cable, but I do have a card reader in the computer which I could try if you think that's a better bet

Thanks for the offer. I may take it up if my current efforts don't produce a result.
    Will let you know.

I think card readers are always the best way to do it. They offer a simpler workflow and you can just leave them plugged into your computer. Or, if you have a built-in card reader, you don't even have to plug them in. The reason I asked about a card reader is software. Are you trying to view or transfer the images with the software that came with your camera or are you using your operating system? If you're using the camera software, that could be part of the problem. Camera companies often aren't that great at making software. I almost never use the supplied software. Instead, I just use a card reader and Windows Explorer.

If your card really is very corrupt, then even your computer might have a problem handling the files. If that's the case, I encourage you to take SmartWombat up on his offer to help. He's a site moderator, an experienced photographer and a Windows professional. If anyone can help you, he can

Re: Problems downloading from SD Card

I too am having problems with reading the card. I pulled the card out of my camera to use the card reader. nothing. I put the card back into my camera and it now says error reading the card. Where can I find the software to recover? The only things on this card are the first pics of my daughter in her wedding gown, HELP?!?!?!?!?

Sorry about your card problems, Annie. Nothing is perfect and it happens to everyone, eventually. You can download the recovery software from either the Lexar or SanDisk Web sites. It costs a bit, but I'm sure it's worth it to recover your photos.
