I'm not personally familiar with the lens you're talking about, but you will need something pretty long for wildlife, and you'll need a tripod, too. I'd think 300mm doubled would be enough. Tamron lenses won't be as good as Nikon lenses, but I think if you shoot stopped down (sometimes difficult with wildlife) you'll be OK. If you're buying from a 'brick and mortar' dealer they should let you take a few pics and transfer them to your USB drive for you to evaluate.

The only drawback is that sometimes nature photography calls for wide angles to get nice vistas. 70mm might be a bit long for that. It's pretty impossible to make a 'do all' lens, though. I have a Canon 35-350, which is nice for nature, but too short for wildlife, and with its wide angle a doubler won't work (optics move too far back and glass would crash against glass- ouch).

I don't currently know of any websites that evaluate lenses and post samples. Is it listed here in the review section?

The lens is reviewed here and gets mixed reviews-

-what I don't particularly like about reviews here is that they don't include sample pics so you can see what people are talking about.
