Question Noobie needing help picking a camera...

    Hello Everyone,

So this is my first time buying a camera and I would love some advice. I am starting a webpage that will sell old antiques and I need a good camera to get the close up details of the items. They will vary in size but most of the items will be small totem poles about 20 inches long. I will also need to take good pictures of very small signatures on the items.

I will need the pictures to still be detailed at 8 1/2" by 11". I wont be printing them that large they just need to go to that size for the online enlarged photos.

All the pictures will be taken inside most likely with a white sheet or some kind of white background. I will also have the camera on a tripod if you need to know that.

I would like to find something well under $1000 but if a camera around that range will do way better then say a $300 - $500 camera I will most likely go for the one around $1000...

Please let me know if I have left any information out, again I barely know what I am looking for and I do not know enough to know if I have covered all the points of buying a camera.

Thank you all very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!

One thing that helps web sales is GOOD pictures and I would think that with antiques this is especially important as the buyer will want to know all the details of condition.
That being said, I think you would be wise to use a dslr with a macro lens.
