Hi,

My S400 is the ultimate trail and CamelBak camea as long as one does not have to capture action under forrest canopy.

I'm not so keen on spending the money or carrying the weight of a DSLR, but desperately want more ability to capture trail and bike action than I can with my S400 digital elph or Nikon 995.

Rebel XT makes a lot of sense because I have EOS film camera. Will a G6 be disappointment? I see a max aperture of f2 vs. 2.8 and 2.6 (S400, 995). I know the kit lenses are not very fast, but it also looks like pushing ISO speed works much better with DSLRs.

I do know about pre-focus, and manual settings etc.... I will also qualify the situation by pointing out that I have and use old manual film cameras and differ from some who think you have to have every bit of electronic help available. I really just want to be able to have some reasonable results in the realm 1/125 - 1/500 of a second etc.... There's no way to insure that with my lovable elph, and the 995 is hardly an action camera.... Would a G6 me a disappointment? It and Rebel XT both seem great in a cameras store, but that's not a way to replicate forest canopy and somebody launching their bike off of a rock.

The $400ish difference between G6 and XT is a set of bike wheels or a few long weekend getaways. I see G6 also uses same battery in our camcorder.

Any other non-SLR that should be looked at to capture action and carry well?

Comments and opinions appreciated.

Thank you.
