    new camera

I'm looking for a new digital camera (less than $700), mostly for kids sporting events. Any recommendations?

Hi, Try the new Canon Powershot G7, its great for all types of lighting conditions and has great maunal control features if you want to get creative. It's also built like a tank!

Can you tell us more? What kind of sporting events? What camera have you been using? Are there any specific problems you've been having that you want avoid? Do you know if you want a compact camera or a digital SLR? There are lots of options and only knowing your budget makes it hard to make recommendations, although the Canon G7 is a great camera. But you could also buy a super zoom digital with a 10x zoom lens, or even a digital SLR and lens for $700. Tell us a little more and we can give you better advice.

I want good photos of indoor & outdoor soccer as well as swimming & diving. I have the Canon Poweshot S3 & I can't seem to get the shots I want b/c it's too slow. I've reverted back to using my 35mm.

The S3 IS is a great camera. But if you're trying to shoot soccer - especially indoors - it might be time for you to take a look at digital SLRs. If you want to eliminate shutter lag and have the best possible auto focus, a digital SLR is the only way to go. If you buy new, you can get started for as little as $500-600. If you buy a used camera, you can pay even less. What you'll give up is the lens reach that your S3 IS has. Of course, you'll have a lot more lens options available, but they'll cost you. To have a digital SLR system comparable to your S3 IS, you'll have to spend about $2000, I think. But if you do spend the money, you can be confident that there's no camera problem when your pictures don't come out. It's all user error at that point
