Need some advice for a gift

I'm purchasing a digital camera as a gift for someone and Im not exactly sure which one to purchase. From what i remember ..they liked the canon sx100? Is that a good camera? I would like something in that price range and with good zooming capabilites and basically like that sx100 style.. sorry,not really a pro on digital cameras so i might be wrong with some info.....Any suggestions? thanks in advance!

Sorry, I don't have any specific camera to recommend. What I can say is that when it comes to my camera gear, I don't want anyone else picking out what they think I might want. I would rather have a gift card and make my own choice. I know a gift card can seem impersonal, but for me, I would rather have that, than to get something I don't want and have to have the person return it.

Well, the SX100 gets pretty good marks from users. Good sharp color, nice lens range at 10x. I like it for the price point.

But if you can wait just a little while, the G9 may enjoy a price drop since the G10 was just announced. But if you're on a deadline, I think the SX100 is a fine choice for point and shoot with some "welly."

thanks for the help. I think i will be purchasing the sx110 ..the only downside is id need batteries comapred to my other camera that i charge...so im not so sure.

Not sure how much you want to pay. I prefer cameras with the rechargable lithion-ion batteries and I always have two so if I am shooting then I put the charged one in if the one in the camera runs out. I would get a small point and shoot so to speak because these point and shoot are point and shoot if you put them in auto mode. If you are shooting into back light you have to remember to put it into P mode and force the flash. This is also for shooting in the sun when there are shadows on the face.
