Need a camera for action sports

Hey, I'm looking for a camera to take shot with involve alto of action sports, but also for family occasions. now my budget isn't very big maybe $300 at the most.

what I'm looking for: no shutter lag (or very minimal), being able to take a series of shots without slowing, Good picture quality, have the option to adjust the camera settings.

I am new to this so i think I am asking a lot out of a $250 dollar camera.

my current camera was a kodak 3.2MP bought 4 years ago... LOL. so anything would be better.

    Thanks:thumbsup:

EDIT: oh yeah... i was looking at a Canon SD1000, i read the reviews and im not certain about it yet

Most manufacturers make inexpensive models of there cameras. nikon d40 goes for about $450MSRP, Pentax k100 is fairly inexpensive, and I believe cannons rebel series is fairly inexpensive. You are asking a lot out of $300. my suggestion is to keep saving and you may be happier in the long run. Or you could go with a higher end point and shoot camera they come with some pretty nice lenses if you shop around.

Are we talking indoor or outdoors sports? If indoor, save for a DSLR. If outdoor, an advanced point and shoot can get the job done. Some will recommend Canon, but Panasonics have a much shorter lag time and some will shoot at 3 frames per second. Look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8. I have the FZ7 and really like it.

I went with the Canon SD1000 for now. I've been playing with the camera for most of the day. With the flash shut off (use outdoors) it shot good frames per second, In my opinoin. This camera is going to serve as dual purpose for now.

SLR stands for single lens reflex. These cameras have a much larger sensor and use interchangeable lenses.

Good luck with your new camera.
