    Moose Peterson review?

    Hey there!

How accurate are his reviews? Eg, http://www.moosepeterson.com/D3/new_lenses.html

Does he exaggerate and give biased opinion?

Note: sorry if I posted in the wrong section!

    Re: Moose Peterson review?

I have been following Moose's blog for a couple months now, but since I don't shoot Nikon, I don't pay much attention to his reviews of Nikon gear. That being said, here is my impression of Moose. I think Moose is a no nonsense, tell it like it is kind of guy. He isn't going to sugar coat anything for you, or beat around the bush. He actually comes off as pretty brazen sometimes, and I find it a bit off putting. Again, that is the impression I get from reading his blog, not his reviews.

When it comes to big name pros reviewing gear, I always wonder if they have a vested interest in the company they are reviewing equipment for. Moose has been shooting with Nikon gear for a long time, but I don't know exactly what his "inside connections" at Nikon are like, but I have a guess. Does he get paid by Nikon (or other manufacturers)? I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did get something from them.

This would have the potential to make any review a little biased, but I wouldn't completely discount what they have to say because of it. I would look for other reviews by consumers to see what they have to say before I make my choice.

    Thanks for your response!

    What do you mean by
He actually comes off as pretty crass sometimes, and I find it a bit off putting. Again, that is the impression I get from reading his blog, not his reviews.

That's a good observation - he reviews nikon grears most of the time. But is it because he is a fan boy, like kenrockwell?

Anyway, I guess I have to cross reference with user reviews, and other renowed ones to see which is reliable. Sadly...

Perhaps "crass" wasn't the correct word. Brazen seems more appropriate. (I changed my original post). I do highly recommend Moose's blog, and especially the BT Journal he puts out if you are interested in wildlife/nature photography.

If you examine his Workshops you see that Nikon reps are present and Nikon eqipment is made available for loan.
I expect this is the perk he gets.
I doubt intentionally biased, but everyone has their favorites and their personal opinion.
