    Miles from Anywhere

Do any professional photographers use D-SLR's when out in the field, and miles from anywhere. If so, where do they get the juice from. For example, if a photographer were touring the African Savanna, there aren't a whole lot of electrical outlets to plug into and re-charge. Do they drive a Land Rover full of batteries?

Do professional digital cameras not have 12VDC adapters? Sony sells them for their cybershot cameras. Haven't gotten one yet but I've wished I had it on a couple of occasions...

    Inverters

I never get that far from civilization. But I have an inverter in my car so that I can plug in my laptop or battery chargers. If you get way out there, I think fuel for the vehicle would be a bigger problem. If I went on a long trip where I was on foot, I might consider taking a mechanical film camera. But that would be for reliability, as much as power considerations.

Solar power,,, its slow, but strap a solar cell to the top of your backpack, and after a day of shooting and hiking, your 2nd battery is charged, and you just swap back and forth day after day... provided its sunny outside.

    War Photographers

I've heard that war photographers are using solar powered, portable satellite dishes, to upload their photos.
