Looking to get into professional photography- what kinda cam?? :-)

Hey Everyone...I've posted a couple times before with different questions..I'm still trying to ease into all this information and understand everything (F Stops, Apertures, ISO, )

I have had the Canon S500 for 1-2 years now and it has served me well, but it broke and now I'm looking for a good Digital SLR which I can used a "beginner" photographer and also one that can grow with me at least for the beginning of my photography career.

I've been told the Canon Rebel many times...does that sound right? If ye, which model? If no, what would y'all recommend??

    Thanks!!

Canon Rebel XT would be the one to get. Although it is Canon's entry level DSLR, I wouldn't call it entry level since it has everything you need except for a rugged body.

Also check out the Nikon D50! Both it and the XT are excellent cameras, but you may prefer the feel of one over the other.

Thanks for the replys...is it correct to assume that as I progress in the world of photography, my way of upgrading would be to purchase better lenses?

for the most part yes. however the Professional model cameras are built tougher (more rugged as well as shoot more pics in its life) and have alot more "less used" features, things like 8 frames per second, and that kind of stuff. if your new to photography i'd start with an entry level or just above just to make sure you like it before you invest thousands of dollars on a body alone, just choose the brand that suits you best and you can use the same lenses and build your "collection" as you need better and better parts.
