Hey all,
I'm sure you get a lot of people showing up and saying "Tell me which camera to buy," so I'll try to be as specific for what I'm looking to do to try and get some advice on which cameras may be best.
So far I'm a little overwhelmed with the wide array of choices I have for a new camera. I don't really know which brands are known for what, or which to avoid, so I feel a bit like I'm fumbling in the dark.
I have a few main points I'm looking for from a camera:
- I'm not a professional, so I don't need an SLR or anything with a major lens. Classic 'digital camera' for me.
- I need something that I can point at my subject, focus, and get a shot in as fast as possible. The camera I'm replacing takes forever for the auto focus to do its thing, and sometimes won't at all. I usually have to let go, frame it again and then re-shoot. In contrast I've used other people's cameras which shoot, what feels like, the instant the button is pressed.
- I'd like a camera that can handle moving subjects with reasonable sharpness. (Think people in a dorm moving around real fast. I'd like to be able to get shots in without them blurring.
- Also, for times I'm traveling I would like it to be able to take nice full pictures. A wider than normal zoom would be nice, but mainly I want to get sharp, vibrant colors from it in bright sunlight. My favorite is this one taken in Japan, I just don't want to be limited by my camera on that regard.
I've been considering the Panasonic DMC-FX01, although I don't know anyone who's used one, so I haven't gotten a feel. I also just read the review of the Olympus Stylus 780 Pro, which sounds nice, but again:
If anyone has used these cameras, how well do they stack against the criteria I have?
And, does anyone else have a camera that fits those criteria that I should know about?
Thanks for any help you guys can give me,
Jordan
Edit: I just found the Canon PowerShot SD750, which seems promising as well. Any word on that one?
