    A little help

First time poster but been lurking for a while. Looking to purchase the wife a camera. It doesn't need to be much - something that will allow her to take pics of our kids and a short video when needed. I am looking to spend less than $200 and i am just as interested in what not to get as to what to get. I am not even sure what to consider - How important is MORE Megapixels how important is a BIGGER screen. Also don't want a boomer of a camera something that will fit in her purse. Much appreciation on your help!!!
    thanks

Hi there! Did you find a camera for your wife or do you still need some suggestions? Just curious,

The Canon ELPH line of cameras come to mind. All will easily fit in her pocket or purse, and most come with a big LCD. Anything above 6 MP should be plenty and all will allow her take a short video depending on size of the card.

I'm most likely too late. However, Just wanted to add that I purchased this camera for a friend of mine (for her daughter). It looks like a decent camera for $79 and it does video. It has 11 good reviews on B&H.

You can get some decent cameras for less than $200. You might also check out the Canon A590.

There's an amazing (and dizzying) selection of point and shoots out there. I'd say a good screen is more important since the viewfinder on these cams aren't the best. Too many pixels is a waste, IMO, since the sensors are really small. 8mp is pretty good.

One important thing to consider is your wife's hands. If they are smaller than yours, what you like or don't like about the control buttons might not work for her. Take her shopping as a surprise and have her try out different models and choose the one she likes best in her hands.

    Cheers,

    Cath
