    Re: Lens question

In my opinion, the best conversion zoom lens you can get for the money is the Olympus Tcon-17. I got scammed into buying a cheaper one, and it was a piece of junk. I love my Olympus. I use it on my Panasonic and have had excellent results. The lens runs about $100 and then you probably also need an adapter for your camera. Also, be sure to buy from a reputable dealer like BH Photo or Adorama. There are too many so called online stores that will screw any way they can. One more thing, the Olympus comes in 2 thread sizes. Know which one you need before you order. This lens is worth every penny. It will turn your 12X into a 20.4X optical zoom.

    Re: Lens question

The Olympus Tcon-17 looks like a good lens, but it has no threads for filters.Neither does the Sony 1.7 lens. With the Sony lens I would not need a step up/down adapter.Know of any others in the price range?

    Re: Lens question

That is the downside of these conversion lenses. Actually, I'm a bit surprised they don't have them threaded for filters. Maybe they think that people who shoot with these cameras aren't that serious. I don't know of any conversion lenses that are threaded. However, I do know that it's more important to have a good lens without threads than a crappy lens with threads. Actually, the only filter I can think of that I would even utilize, is a polarizer. But then, I only shoot wildlife. If I feel it's that important, I can always darken the sky in post processing.

Thank you for the help Mike.I mostly use a uv filter to protect the camera lens and a polarizing filter around water.
