I need some help.

Ok so obviously im new at this, I have some experience with filming but im just now getting in to photography and dont know that much about it at all. I need some advice on what type of cameras would be good for taking photos of action sports ex. Skateboarding, Bmx, Motocross. stuff like that. SO if you guys could help me out that would be great.

The simple answer is a digital SLR. There are no compact digital cameras that really have the necessary speed and flexibilty of a digital SLR. However, digital SLRs cost a lot more than compact digital cameras. And you can take good action photos with compacts if you use good technique. Maybe you can tell us more about you budget and what you want to shoot so that we can better help you.

How much would a decent one run me? Im not willing to spend too much but I would like to be able to get a decent one that that fits my needs. All I need is something to take good quality, action photos. I would like it to take the pictures fast, My digital camera at home does not do that because it is getting old now.
