    I need a recommendation on a camera

It seems that during my painting the past few weeks, my camera has came up missing*. I was using a basic 4.0 megapixel Canon SD300 and was very pleased with it. It was small and easy to use, just point and shoot, and that would produce great pics. I think I am gonna get a new version of the SD, any better choices for the money?

If you were happy with that camera I can't see why a newer, higher-resolution Canon SD wouldn't be a good choice. They aren't my favorite cameras because I like having more exposure control than they offer. For the past year my favorite super-compacts have been the Casios - especially the EX-Z750, which is super quick, pocket-sized and offers full manual exposure controls, if you want them. Casio has since introduced the EX-Z850, which is basically the same camera with an 8-megapixel sensor.

Are there any features you'd like that weren't on your SD300? One of the new Canon SD cameras is image stabilized. That would be a nice feature to add.

I thought about the SD700 IS. Is the IS worth the extra money?

I'm not sure how much more it costs than other cameras you might be looking at. I'd say it's worth $50-100 more. IS works really well and does help people get more and better photos. And as far as the Canon P&S compacts go, to me, this is the most interesting one. I give you permission to buy it

Is it true that cameras with wide angle lenses produce distorted looking images?

yeah - I really dont know why they dont keep the aperture/shutter priority and manual modes in the elph's, its their strong suit in the A-series....
