    How To Remove SvcHost.exe Malware

The term SvcHost, also known as svchost.exe or Service Host, is a process used to host one or more Windows operating system services. The svchost.exe Microsoft Windows executable file is labeled as: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services. This is a required Windows file and is used to load needed DLL files that are used with Microsoft Windows and Windows programs that run on your computer.

Re: How To Remove SvcHost.exe Malware

Because svchost.exe is used as a common system process, some malware often uses a process name of “svchost.exe” to disguise itself. The original system file svchost.exe is located in C:\Windows\System32 folder. Any file named “svchost.exe” located in other folder can be considered as a malware. Determining the image path of a process, and its invoking command line, can help identify software masquerading in this way, and help locate the actual program file which is running under the assumed process name of “svchost.exe” (Windows allows multiple processes to all display the same name). Some malware inject a .dll file into the authentic svchost process, for example Win32/Conficker worm.

Re: How To Remove SvcHost.exe Malware

Because svchost.exe is a common process in the Task Manager, malware programs sometimes mask themselves by running under the same process name of svchost.exe. Other times, a malware program may run, or inject, its service into an already running svchost.exe process. In either case, this masking action can make it difficult to detect and remove these malware programs.

Another method used to propagate this type of malware is spam email containing infected attachments or links to malicious websites. Cyber-criminals spam out an email, with forged header information, tricking you into believing that it is from a shipping company like DHL or FedEx. The email tells you that they tried to deliver a package to you, but failed for some reason. Sometimes the emails claim to be notifications of a shipment you have made. Either way, you can’t resist being curious as to what the email is referring to – and open the attached file (or click on a link embedded inside the email). And with that, your computer is infected with the Svchost.exe virus.

The threat may also be downloaded manually by tricking the user into thinking they are installing a useful piece of software, for instance a bogus update for Adobe Flash Player or another piece of software.

Re: How To Remove SvcHost.exe Malware

The BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) is a component of the Microsoft Windows Operating System that makes use of idle network bandwidth to download data crucial to the system (such as Windows updates) in the background. However, in some cases, the BITS service can malfunction, causing it to siphon off excessively large amounts of bandwidth from the user and also cause the svchost.exe process to start using up an unacceptably significant percentage of the affected computer’s Random Access Memory. If your computer is affected by the svchost.exe process taking up a lot of your RAM problem and BITS is also using a lot of bandwidth, it may be causing the issue in the first place, and if that is so, disabling the BITS service altogether should fix the problem.
