How Do You Print?

We've done this poll a few times, but it's time to do it again. How does everyone here get prints made?

Feel free to add comments or elaborate here. I'm curious as to how our printing habits have changed over the past few years. For instance, I hardly print anything anymore. Almost everything goes straight to the Web. I care little about prints for myself. I pretty much only have prints made if someone pays me for a print.

How about you? How do you print and how much do you print?

Interesting results! I'm suprised how many people use web services as opposed to a local lab. Why not support the local business?

I use a local pro lab that allows me to download pictures to them. Then I just pick them up on the way home. It usually takes about two days unless I call and ask for a rush.

I'm like you, I pretty much don't print at home anymore. The cost is high and I can't the results I want out of my printer consistantly even with a calibrated monitor and paper profiles. The same "troubled" images print fine at the lab....

I've thought of getting a new printer, but test results of my "troubled" images through friends' printers, while better than my current epson, aren't at the labs level. Plus, $500 is the starting price for a tabloid printer. This price, not including consumables, will make many a print at the lab.

Local pro lab that is also online. They used to be quite close to me but now that they moved so I never stop in anymore as they offer free shipping for all their prints. They do a great job and the work flow is nice and easy.

My local lab closed up, my local options otherwise are walgreens, walmart, or target. Otherwise I have to drive 45 minutes to get to a real lab. So for me online printing services are the way to go. In the past I have used Ofoto and shutterfly, but I recently tried Mpix, and they will be doing all of my printing from now on.

That's unfortunate. The lab I use will catch potential mistakes. For example, if I print on a paper I usually don't use. They'll call me up just to make sure it's what I really wanted. It's always nice.

Plus, if there's a problem when I pick up prints they can fix it or reprint it for me while I wait. It happened once. I had selected two prints but they only printed one. They reprinted two 11x17s for me to make sure they were identical.
