Hooking digicam up to a tv

Hello all

I have recently acquired a Nikon Coolpix 7900 that has an A/V out for connecting to a tv. When I hook it up however the imgage on the tv screen is jumpy and in black and white. I can make out the images to be the ones normally on the LCD, so I know the signal is getting through, but its all messed up. The same happens when I try connecting to the DVD player or VCR.

Any thoughts?

Maybe the cable is messed up, I had an old digital camera and this same thing happened and i got a new cable and the problem was fixed.

Guessing here but maybe the ouput is set to PAL rather than NTSC?

Have you tried a different TV? Just trying to think of the easy things first...

Could be a cable or setting - but I think the only video setting on my Coolpix relates to the video that it will shoot but have never used. In any case, it has some settings and one may be PAL or NTSC which are different video formats (US vs. Europe, I think). Don't have it with me so I can't check, but scroll thru the setup menu to see if something like this shows up.
