Help Me Choose a Lens (buying Nikon D50)

I'm wanting to buy a Nikon D50, but I don't really know anything about lenses.

I know I should do the research myself, but I'm just wondering if I could get a run-down on the differences and what they do. Are either of the suggested lenses for this camera better to use? (18-55mm and 55-200mm) Or should I choose another one?

I plan to use this as more of an all-purpose camera. What would you reccomend to someone who doesn't really know the difference? :blush2:

You could try the relatively low quality 18-55 and 55-200, which are ok on the image quality front, but have slow apertures (you need more light or a longer shutter speed), and lacking in build quality and features (they have rod-type AF-S so you cannot override autofocus instantly).

Or you could try the better Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX, which is a higher quality consumer lens that is inexpensive and allows you full time manual override, has a faster aperture, and better build and image quality.

It is not a best choise to buy 15-55 and 55-200 because of quality.

Just take a look to reviews:

yes but on a budget they're still decent enough. Not meant to be professional grade, just like any kit lens. Very few consumer lenses, more by accident than anything else, end up actually being very high quality
