Digital Photo Organization

Hello Everyone

I have a question about organization of your digital photos. I am very much an amature point and shoot but I am getting more into RAW and trying to become a skilled photographer :blush2:

I typically download the photos to my computer and they are stored by date in folders. I started to see that this results in hundreds of sub folders over time. Further it does not allow me to tag the images as location, of landscape or animals and so on.

What tools do you use to manage the hundreds of photos you have on your computers?

What are you using for software? I use Adobe Lightroom to keep track of everything. By default I have it set to put my shots into folders by date. In Lightroom though I can also add star ratings to my shots based on how good I think they are as well as the ability to add keywords to my shots. This way I can search my photos based on their ratings or subject matter or whatever else I want. The program also imports all of you exif info, or in my case, I can enter all the shot info manually, so you can search your photos based on the camera used, lens, etc.
