digital camera selection

Hi Everyone This is my first post hope its in the right spot. I want to buy my wife a digital camera for xmas and the problem is she has been into photography since she was verry young and a couple years ago i did some research and finally decided to buy her a Nikon 5700 digital camera it cost about $900.00 at the time but when she started using it she hated it low light pictures out of focus just several things but the number one is that when she pushes the shutter button there is a delay before it actually takes the picture and she misses the shot she wanted to get so that camera doesnt get used much except by me i just put a big memory card in it and shoot gobs of pictures and delete the bad ones. what would be a good digital camera and lens or lenses that would not have the delay when shooting sports and would also work good as a portrait camera. budget is $2000.give or take a couple hundred

Um wow somewhere in there is the longest sentence I've ever seen.

Anywho, I guess you're looking for a DSLR considering you mention camera and lenses and also budget of $2000. If that's the case, any of today's DSLR's will do the job. The shutter lag on them is virtually non-existent. I would go for for any of the recent 'entry' level DSLR's which cost between $700 and $900 and save the rest of the money for a couple of good, fast lenses.

I agree with Canuck935, buy a cheaper camera body and put the rest toward some great lenses.:thumbsup:

Question: Do you have a 35mm SLR system right now? Because if you already have lenses or other accessories that you can use with a digital SLR, that would be a strong argument for sticking with that camera maker.

If not, do you have any preferences or special needs? The truth is, all the current digital SLRs are very good both in terms of performance and image quality. So the right camera is as much a matter of taste and fit as anything else. If you do have a particular bias, you should acknowledge it, though. If you ignore it, you may regret it later.

Thanks Sorry about the long sentence. any sugestions on a cheaper body and lenses. one of my friends suggested a sony xti body is it a good one.:thumbsup:

Well, if she is used to Minolta, she should probably at least take a look at the Sony A100 that can utilize Minolta lenses.
