Difference between different compact Canon cameras + does IS matter?

    Hi all,

I want to buy a camera that I can carry around in my pocket and that takes good photos both indoors and outdoors. The Canon Powershot line of products has caught my eye, but there are a few things I really don't understand: the difference between the SD750, SD1000, SD870IS, SD950IS and SD1100IS.

Apart from Image Stabilization, maximum resolution (they all have good enough resolution for me, so that's not an issue), LCD screen size (I really don't care whether it is 2.5in or 3.0in) and viewfinder availability (I don't need one, as I will probably use the LCD screen all the time), all the cameras are the same to me.

If IS is the only difference, then I ask: does IS really make a difference in these cameras when it comes to blurry pictures?

    Thanks,

    Crusader

If you want to take indoor pictures, IS will be a big help as exposure times will typically be longer inside.
FWIW my girlfriend has the SD1000 (non IS) and it is a great little camera, nice display excellent image quality, decent scene modes, good battery life. It is also a comfortable camera to use and I normally hate tiny cameras, but this one still feels comfortable in my hands.

Image Stabilization makes a big difference, unless you are a robot and can hold the camera perfectly still. And if you plan on taking outdoor pictures, don't count on the LCD in the sunlight, meaning a viewfinder is a must. Just my opinion(s)...
