Canon SD600 OR Sony DSC W70

I have zeroed down on these two camera based on various reviews. Though Canon is supposed to give better pictures, but I am worried about the build quality. Can anyone throw some light on these two cameras or suggest some alternatives in this range?

Re: Canon SD600 OR Sony DSC W70

I think the Canon is built pretty well. The Canon's are by far the most popular on this site and other digital camera Web sites. For alternatives, I'd look to Olympus and Panasonic. I think the Panasonic Lumix compact digitals are very sturdy and most of them have optical image stabilization, which neither the SD600 nor the Sony W70 have. And image stabilization - real image stabilization - is a very valuable feature which really does help people get more usable photos. I'd say to give the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX0ia look and see if it fits the bill for you. Image quality is sort of a complicated issue, anyway. Even if that Canon has the best image quality, that's only in good conditions. The image stabilization that the Panasonic offers might make up for a slight compromise in image quality. Or, you might consider the Canon SD700 IS, which also has image stabilization.

Re: Canon SD600 OR Sony DSC W70

I had the SD400 and replaced it recently with an SD700IS. I can tell youthe SD400 it was the reason I bought another SD series. was dropped a few imes, and beat up. The one bad drop was whill I was running in the rain and it bounced out of my hoodie front pocket and I watched it tumble down the concrete sidewalk battery and memory card flying out. I quickly gathered everything and stuffed them in my pockets and got to somewhere dry, dried on the card and the battery, popped them in and it worked. The camera was beat up and even dented and heavily scratched in a few places but worked flawlessly. I only replaced it because I lost it.

Thanks for posting your comments about the Canon SD cameras. I would be very happy if you would post a review for your SD700 IS. We only have 3 reviews for that camera right now and it's still pretty popular. User reviews are the foundation of PhotographyREVIEW.com and we need your contribution.

Thanks in advance for the review!
